Libya ranks 6th in Arab world in Freedom in the World Index 2024

Libya was ranked sixth in the Arab world in the Freedom in the World Index 2024 , one point higher than last year. According to the Index, Libya scored 1 point out of 40 in political rights, and 8 points out of 60 in civil liberties: 9 points out of 100.

The Index attributed the score to Libya’s internal divisions and intermittent civil conflicts, in addition to the failure of international efforts to unite competing administrations into one government, which prevented holding elections.

According to the report, the proliferation of weapons and “militias”, and the interference of regional powers contributed to the ongoing lack of physical security, in addition to the violence that led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, as well as the deterioration of human rights conditions in general.

Somalia, the Gaza Strip, Saudi Arabia, and Sudan each scored 8 points out of 100, while Syria scored 1 point out of 100.
