The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Government of National Unity (GNU), Taher Al-Baour, met with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in Sochi, where they discussed bilateral relations and regional developments.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday explained that Al-Baour and Lavrov stressed the importance of enhancing political consultations between the two countries, especially with regard to issues on the agenda of the UN Security Council.
The discussion touched on the recent developments in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, stressing the importance of activating joint committees between Libya and Russia to enhance cooperation in various fields, including economic, commercial and cultural fields.
Al-Baour stressed the appreciation of the close relations with Russia over the time, stressing Libya’s keenness to develop these relations in a way that serves the interests of the two peoples, and Lavrov noted Moscow’s support for Libyan efforts to achieve stability.
