Libya, US top diplomats renew call for mercenaries’ withdrawal

The United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, spoke Thursday with Libyan Foreign Minister, Najla Al-Mangoush, according to a statement by the US Department of State.

The US Secretary and Libyan Foreign Minister discussed the upcoming June 23 Berlin II Conference on Libya and underscored the importance of ensuring national elections are held in December 2021, emphasizing the need for full implementation of the October 23, 2020 ceasefire agreement, including the immediate withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya.

US Secretary of State Blinken also stressed the United States’ commitment to increasing diplomatic engagement to promote international efforts supporting progress in Libya.

Meanwhile, the Libyan Foreign Minister also reiterated the need for holding elections on time next December.
