Libyan Ambassador to Bulgaria calls for reopening the Bulgarian embassy and settlement of tanker Badr issue

Libyan Ambassador to Bulgaria Abu Bakr Saeed met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Bulgarian Foreign Minister Maria Gabriel to discuss mechanisms for strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

The two sides discussed developing joint plans to restore “momentum” to bilateral relations between the two countries in all fields, such as gas, oil, education, and health. During the meeting, the ambassador called on the Bulgarian side to reopen their embassy in Tripoli, stressing Libya’s keenness to settle disputed issues between the two countries, including the tanker Badr and the debts owed by both sides.

Bulgarian authorities had detained the tanker Badr in November 2017, after a lawsuit was filed by a Bulgarian contracting company demanding dues from the Libyan state dating back to 1992.
