Libyan Army under GNA’s command declares full control of Tripoli International Airport

The Libyan Army forces under the command of the Government of National Accord have seized control of Tripoli International Airport after defeating Khalifa Haftar’s terrorist militias.

The spokesman for the Libyan Army Mohammed Gununu said GNA forces had chased away Haftar’s fleeing militias toward Qasir Benghashir district.

The battle to liberate Tripoli International Airport started Wednesday morning and after heavy clashes, GNA forces were able to advance on the Airport as Haftar’s militias were defeated and fled toward Tarhouna, Bani Walid and some areas in Qasir Benghashir.

The spokesman for the Libyan Army Mohammed Gununu also said that the success of this military operation came after a week of victories for GNA forces who regained control of all military camps in south Tripoli and confined Haftar’s militias to a very small area.

“Over 48 bodies for Haftar’s militias had been recovered as the rest of the militia fighters fled their positions under heavy fire and advance by GNA forces.” Gununu remarked.

The victory of seizing full control of Tripoli International Airport comes in a series of wins for GNA forces that started early in May by seizing coastline cities, then Al-Watiya airbase and now almost all of southern Tripoli frontlines.
