The spokesman for the Sirte-Jufra Operations Room of the Libyan Army, Abdelhadi Drah, said Sirte-Misrata coastal road would be reopened Sunday in the presence of Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah, saying the step aims to help Libyans and facilitate their transportation.
Drah told Libya Alahrar TV that the agreement on reopening the coastal road came after several meetings with the Prime Minister and commander of the Sirte-Jufra Operations Room as well as commanders of Burkan Al-Ghadab Operation, field commanders, municipal and elders councils in Misrata.
He also said that they had given the other side (Haftar’s militias) a deadline for withdrawing their Russian Wagner Group mercenaries from Sirte and its airport as well as Jufra airbase
Reopening the coastal road that has been closed since 2019 due to the offensive against Tripoli by Haftar’s militias is part of the ceasefire agreement signed in October 2020.
