The EU and Libya have initiated collaboration to secure the Ras Jadir border crossing. The Libyan Joint Committee and the European Union mission agreed that cooperation between them in the first phase would be based on supporting the capabilities of the security services to secure the Al-Assa border area and the Ras Jadir border crossing, in addition to providing technical and logistical support for the maritime borders.
This came during the first meeting that brought together the European Union mission with the Libyan Joint Committee responsible for supervising and coordinating cooperation with the European Union Mission for Support in Integrated Border Management in Libya (EUBAM), in accordance with the terms of the memorandum of understanding signed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation with the mission in October of last year.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the activities carried out by the mission during the past period, and the mission’s plan for the period from May 2024 to June 2025.
In this regard, the two sides stressed the importance of the mission’s role in providing technical and strategic advice to the Libyan authorities concerned with border security and management.
