Libyan Navy patrol rescues 261 immigrants

The Libyan Navy said one of its patrols off the coast rescued Saturday 261 illegal immigrants from different African countries as they were making the risky journey to European shores on a rubber boat.

The Libyan Navy added on Facebook that its patrol rescued the immigrants after receiving a distress call, saying that the immigrants had been disembarked at Tripoli Naval Base before being sent to the Anti Illegal Immigration Center.

The Libyan Navy also indicated that the illegal immigrants would receive the needed care before being repatriated each to their home country.

“This mission, just like others, is part of our humanitarian and sovereign roles to protect the Libyan coast and provide necessary assistance at the Libyan search and rescue zone.” The Libyan Navy added.
