Libyan PM, US diplomats discuss UN envoy’s initiative, forming caretaker government

The embassy of the United States (US) in Libya said the Special Envoy, Richard Norland, and Chargé d’Affaires Jeremy Berndt had a good meeting with the Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah in Tripoli on Tuesday, at a time when Libyan leaders were facing the need to address serious budgetary and financial issues.

“We discussed the importance of all Libyan stakeholders engaging constructively with the UNSMIL political process to remove remaining obstacles to elections, including the formation of a caretaker government.” The US embassy said on X platform.

It also stressed that Washington supported Libyan efforts to unify security institutions, safeguard Libyan sovereignty, and reach national consensus on transparent and sustainable economic and budgetary policies.
