Libya’s constitutional talks in Cairo suspended, to be resumed in May

The UN Advisor on Libya, Stephanie Williams, said at the end of the constitutional talks in Cairo between the high Council of State (HCS) and House of Representatives (HoR) that the consultations will be suspended till after Eid Al-Fitr celebration (May 02 to May 05).

Williams said there were consensus among the participants, especially on the laws regulating the work of the constitutional committee, adding that the UN will continue to support the political process in Libya leading to holding elections.

She also indicated that Libyans deserve a clear path that leads them out of the current crisis, urging the state institutions to provide the necessary democratic means for holding elections.

Cairo-hosted talks between the two committees of the HCS and the HoR started last week with the aim of reaching consensus on the constitutional basis for holding elections in Libya.
