Libya’s GNA, Haftar militias exchange prisoners

As part of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) efforts, the Government of National Accord (GNA) carried an exchange of war prisoners with Khalifa Haftar’s militias on Friday.

The prisoners swap took place in Shwerif town in the presence of elders from Al-Zawiya, Sabratha, Sorman, and Zintan cities, according to sources speaking to Libya Alahrar TV.

33 prisoners from Haftar’s militias were released in exchange of 15 prisoners from the GNA, according to the sources, who explained that most GNA-released prisoners come from Sabratha, Sorman, Al-Zawiya, Tripoli and Tajoura.

In the meantime, UNSMIL welcomed “the remarkable success registered by the exchange of prisoners from both sides under the supervision of the Joint Military Commission (5+5)”, thanking the good offices of the tribal sheikhs and elders.

UNSMIL urged on Twitter both parties to accelerate the full implementation of the comprehensive ceasefire agreement, signed on October 23, 2020 in Geneva, including the exchange of all prisoners.
