Libya’s HoR members denounce UNSMIL’s “misleading statement”

60 members of the House of Representatives (HoR) have condemned the statement issued by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) regarding the HoR-approved roadmap for the new shape of the executive authority in Libya.

This statement came in response to UNSMIL’s apparent objection to the endorsement of a roadmap by the HoR which was announced in an official session last Wednesday.

The 60 MPs said that UNSMIL’s statement aimed at misleading the public opinion and underestimating the vital consensus between the HoR and the High Council of State (HCS) because UNSMIL described the roadmap as a “unilateral initiative.”

“The current consensus between the HoR and the HCS has been a recurrent demand by all the envoys preceding Abdoulaye Bathily because it complies with the articles of the Libyan political agreement.” The statement reads.

It also voiced alarming concerns about the behavior of UNSMIL and its Head, Bathily, saying their actions had become dubious and appeared to be aiming against consensus in Libya, and urging UNSMIL to commit to its mandated tasks.

“UNSMIL should clarify the intentions behind its statement and amend it to be respectable of the Libyan sovereignty.” The HoR members added.
