The Libyan Interior Minister, Fathi Bashagha, has escaped an assassination attempt on the road of Janzour district just outside Tripoli’s city center.
A bodyguard of Bashagha said the assassination attempt on Sunday afternoon came as a car with four gunmen drove into the motorcade of the Interior Minister and opened fire.
The bodyguard told Libya Alahrar TV that the security personnel with Bashagha opened fire on the assailants, killing one, injuring another and detained the two others.
The assailants fired heavily on Bashagha’s convoy as the vehicles drove through western Tripoli after visiting the National Oil Corporation and the headquarters of the ministry’s law enforcement force, according to the bodyguard.
