Libya’s Interior Minister inks MoU with French security firm

The Interior Minister of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) Fathi Bashagha has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the French security firm (IDEMIA) in developing biometric identifications for Libyans, preparations for elections and other security fields.

The Interior Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that Bashagha and the French firm officials in Paris discussed the biometric identification cards as part of a partnership between the firm and the Interior Minister.

“The partnership with the French security firm will provide Libya with smart biometric identifications via face, iris and fingerprint recognition as well as electronic plates for Libyan cars.” The Ministry of Interior added.

The Ministry added that the partnership includes CCTV systems to be installed across Libyan cities in order to help the work of the institutions and to later assist Libyan elections and counter ant fraud attempts.
