Libya’s unity government grants new rights to children of Libyan women married to foreigners

The Government of National Unity (GNU) has issued a decision that entails giving extended rights to the children of Libyan women who are married to non-Libyans.

The GNU instructed all institutions inside and outside the country that the children of Libyan women who are married to non-Libyans must enjoy all the rights enjoyed by any Libyan citizen.

The decision said in its first article that the children of Libyan women should have all the rights enjoyed by Libyan citizens, including free treatment and education at home and admission to Libyan schools abroad.

The second article said that the children should be exempted from the visa requirement when they enter Libya, and that only the non-Libyan husbands of Libyan women can obtain an entry visa upon arrival.

The GNU decision urged Libyan embassies and consulates abroad to provide Libyan women’s children with the same service as Libyan citizens.
