The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum’s Legal Committee held a virtual session Sunday, when the members presented their proposals regarding the constitutional basis for the national elections on 24 December 2021.
UNSMIL added in a statement that the Legal Committee’s members had agreed to hold intensive sessions during this week to reach a consensus on proposals.
UNSMIL also commended what it had described as the constructive discussions of the Legal Committee members, stressing the importance of moving forward towards agreeing on specific proposals to be presented to Libyan Political Dialogue Forum.
Meanwhile, UNSMIL has said that it “foresees the deployment of a limited number of impartial, unarmed, non-uniformed, international monitors, to complement the Libyan monitors deployed by the 5+5 Joint Military Commission”.
UNSMIL reiterated that this step was stated by the UN Secretary General in his report to the Security Council on 30 December 2020, in which he proposed ceasefire support arrangements, through the establishment of a monitoring component as part of UNSMIL.
