Members of the Supreme Judicial Council complained being forcibly deported from Benghazi

Three members of the Supreme Judicial Council announced that they had been subjected to kidnapping and deprivation of their freedom in the city of Benghazi.

The three members, namely (Councilor Abdul Salam Al-Waer, Councilor Muhammad Hammad, and Councilor Othman Al-Salini) explained that they went to the city of Benghazi for discussions on the proposed amendment to the judicial system presented to the House of Representatives, before they were intercepted by people who claimed to be from the Protocol Department.

According to a joint statement, the members were surprised as soon as they left with the “Protocol Department” personnel to find two vehicles without license plates that took them to a place other than the one the members were seeking.

According to the statement, the consultants’ phones were confiscated and they were prevented from leaving from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm, after which they were transferred to Benina Airport and deported to Tripoli “forcibly”.

In light of this, the Councilors called on the Attorney General to open an investigation into the incident and to reveal the perpetrators through a press conference. The Councilors held the head of the Supreme Judicial Council responsible, demanding that he determine his position on the incident.

The Councilors called on the official authorities in the Libyan state in general and in Benghazi in particular to take the necessary measures to uncover the truth and place it before the Attorney General and also called on the United Nations mission to investigate the matter and inform the Security Council.
