Menfi to Al-Sisi: Libya and Egypt should coordinate on different issues

The Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received Thursday the Head of the Libyan Presidential Council of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Mohammed Menfi, and his deputy, Abdullah Al-Lafi, acting Intelligence Chief Emad Al-Trabelsi and Libyan chargé d’affaires, Tariq Al-Huweij, in Cairo, in the presence of Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, and Intelligence Chief, Abbas Kamel.

During the meeting in Cairo, The Egyptian President stressed Cairo’s full support for the new executive authority in Libya in all fields at bilateral, regional and international circles.

Al-Sisi added, according to a statement by the spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency, Bassam Radi, that the officials had reiterated the importance to have mutual coordination at this stage.

Radi said that Al-Sisi told the Head of the Presidential Council that Egypt was glad to see that the GNU would take up the responsibility to lead Libya through this interim period and achieve reconciliation among Libyan societies.

“This is with the GNU’s work on unifying state institutions and then holding general elections on time next December.” Radi added.

He indicated that Al-Sisi said the work of the GNU would be significant to lead Libya to a new status quo and a lasting stable political system based on the will of the people.

“Egypt aims to help Libya achieve its own interests and preserve its sovereignty as well as regain stability with a unified army and an end to the presence of foreign mercenaries and fighters on its territory.” Al-Sisi said, explaining that Egypt was ready to provide expertise to Libya in all fields and assist the national institutions such as security and police to achieve stability and security in the country.
