Municipal Council elections start in Tripoli

Central Committee for Municipal Council Elections announced voting to select Tripoli Municipal Council members starts on Saturday.

About 20.435 male and 13.305 female voters are eligible to participate, said the committee in a statement.

Eight lists compete in the elections, each includes ten candidates, six primary and four backups, in case one leading candidate resigned or passed out.

The process runs in 37 voting centres, with 243 observers and nine local organizations are participating.

The committee observes municipal elections. It previously supervised processes in Misurata, Al-Zawiya, Ghat, Trajan and Ubari.

The head of Subcommittee for Municipal Elections, Seddik Buhedma, said that more than 33 thousand would vote in 37 centres, pointing that the elections would be done according to plans without recorded violations.

From his side, the head of a local committee, Salem bin Tahia, stressed that the voting process is planned without violations, with voters committed to social distancing rules.

In comments to (Libya Al- Ahrar), bin Tahia expressed his hope that the new council would succeed in its mission, which coincided with selecting new executive authority.

Regarding Tajoura and Hay Al-Andalus elections, Bin Tahia confirmed that results are being reviewed and announced within a few days.
The Central Committee announced election results in Tajoura, Sabratha, Al Zawiyah and Rujban last month.
