New Defense Minister, Chief of Staff appointed by Libya’s GNA

The Libyan Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord (GNA) has appointed the current Deputy Minister of Defense, Salah Al-Deen Al-Namroush as a Defense Minister and Mohammed Al-Haddad as the Chief of Staff after promoting him to a Colonel General.

The GNA’s decision of appointments was posted on the Facebook page of the media office of Al-Sarraj on Saturday after a meeting with Presidential Council members.

The decision comes after Al-Sarraj has promised to reshuffle the GNA amid protests for better living conditions and corruption accusations against officials.

The Presidential Council decided to form a committee headed by the member Abdelsalam Kajman to review the expenditure of the Health Ministry in 2019 and 2020. Its reports should come out in 15 days, the Presidential Council outlined.

GNA’s Presidential Council also formed a committee tasked with creating job opportunities for the unemployed among youths as per urgent measures to heal the ailing economy and services’ sectors in the country.
