Reuters has cited a senior United States Department of State official as saying that the US is concerned about the military escalation by Khalifa Haftar’s side in Tripoli and urges for de-escalation.
“The conflict in Libya is getting more intensified with a rising number of reported Russian mercenaries supporting Haftar’s forces on the ground.” The US official told Reuters, adding that the US continues to recognize the UN-backed Government of National Accord.
The senior US State Department official has also described the MoUs between Libya and Turkey as “unhelpful” and “provocative”.
