The Libyan Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, and the Prime Minister-designate who is appointed by the House of Representatives, Fathi Bashagha, have both welcomed the joint statement by the US, UK, France, Germany and Italy on Libya.
Dbeibah said the statement gave a clear answer on the continuation of work of the Libyan parties based on the political agreement’s outcomes, hailing the statement as being in line with his position that rejects violence and seizing power by force or creating parallel bodies.
Dbeibah also welcomed the statement’s similarity to the UN’s stance that concluded that the Libyan parties should continue to work as per the political agreement which focuses on holding parliamentary and presidential elections. He reiterated his commitment to the policy of transparency on government expenditure.
Likewise, Bashagha said the joint statement came in support of his government, especially the call for a unified government that is capable of governing Libya and holding elections across the country.
He added that in his capacity as a PM of the government that is elected and backed by the House of Representatives and High Council of State, he looks forward to work together with those countries as well as “Arab and African friends” to rebuild Libya and lead it to national elections as soon as possible.
France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America welcomed in a joint statement on Friday the progress made in the talks between the Joint Committee of the House of Representatives and High Council of State in Cairo facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
