Russia puts off reopening of consulate in Benghazi

The Russian ambassador to Libya, Aydar Aganin, said last Thursday that the reopening of Moscow’s consulate in Benghazi would be postponed until further notice following whats he described as a “negative response” from the Government of National Unity (GNU).

Aganin told Novosti news agency that the reopening of the Russian consulate in Benghazi had come across some obstacles due to the current stance of the authorities in Tripoli.

He explained that the reopening of the consulate in Benghazi had been postponed for reasons that were not been fully explained, as the authorities in Tripoli did not consider this move to be in the best interest of the entire Libyan population.
