Sea-Watch: Compulsory return of 100 migrants by a Libyan force

The German humanitarian ‘Sea-Watch’ organization has stated that a Libyan military group intercepted two boats carrying approximately 100 irregular migrants, returned them by force to Libya, and threatened the rescue teams of the Spanish “Open Arms” organization that was carrying out the rescue attempt.

Sea-Watch pointed out that the rescue teams were intercepted by a group that was claimed to be under the name of Tariq bin Ziyad in the east, which took them back towards Libyan shores. Sea-Watch assured that the action committed opposite the Libyan coast was an illegal act, according to a published statement.

The organization posted a copy of the statement on social media with attached images. In the statement, Sea-Watch indicates that the rescue teams were on their way to a migrant boat in the Mediterranean, and at the same time received a rescue call from another boat that was about to sink, after which 24 migrants were saved.

A number of militant groups in Libya have been accused of mistreating migrants by local and international reports, while others have allegedly also been engaging in human trafficking operations across the borders.
