The UN Security Council has adopted a UK-drafted resolution that supports the conclusions of the Berlin conference that called for a permanent ceasefire in Libya.
The UN Security Council’s resolution on Wednesday was yes-voted by 14 countries as Russia abstained. The resolution stresses that Libya’s conflict parties should commit to the ceasefire and the UN arms embargo.
The British resolution called for the continuation of the 5+5 military commission to reach an agreement on a permanent ceasefire, expressing concerns over the growing participation of mercenaries in the fighting in Libya.
The UN resolution also condemned the oil blockade of Khalifa Haftar’s militias, reaffirming the need to persevere Libya’s oil resources under the oversight of the National Oil Corporation.
The Security Council resolution extended the rams embargo in Libya till April 30 2021, saying the status quo in Libya still poses a threat to the international peace and security.
