Southern region rattled by Coronavirus high infection rates

The Spokesperson of the supreme committee for combating Coronavirus in Sabha, Salah Ibrahim, warned that the death rate due to Covid-19 in the town and the southern region is rising since the beginning of January.

Ibrahim stated, “there is a shortage in medical supplies due to the increase of patients in the isolation centre, but supplies haven’t run out totally as rumoured. “

Demand for Oxygen cylinders has increased lately. Sabha municipality brought cylinders from Brak Al-Shati area to cover the patients’ needs.

“The public health centres are functioning well while the three isolation centres in the city suffer from a shortage of medical teams, medicines and equipment as they serve the entire southern region,” he added.

Several centres are only equipped to serve a few patients, and they are almost full. Most of the cases come from Sabha, but the city bears the southern region’s burden wholly.

He warned that if the epidemiological situation continues to rise at this rate, it will get out of control.
