Storm ‘Daniel’ Aftermath: UN’s WFP Steps Up with Aid for Victims

In a significant humanitarian move, the United Nations’ World Food Program (WFP) has declared its commitment to extend monthly aid to approximately 100,000 individuals who have been adversely affected in the country’s eastern regions. This initiative, described as ‘exceptional’ by the global organization, is set to commence shortly.

The aid, primarily in the form of monthly food assistance, will be provided for three months to those residing in areas that have been severely impacted by recent floods. The WFP has emphasized its close collaboration with local authorities and United Nations partners in ensuring the adequate provision and delivery of this assistance to those most in need.

The organization has already dispatched aid to over 5,000 families residing in the eastern part of the country. Furthermore, nearly 2,000 individuals in Benghazi have reportedly received this assistance as of last Tuesday.

The eastern regions of the country, particularly Derna, experienced severe flooding and torrents last Monday due to Storm “Daniel” hitting the area. The floods have resulted in thousands of victims, missing persons, and displaced individuals, according to both local and international reports.
