The High Council of State denounced the detainment of Council member Safwan Al-Masouri after his arrival to his hometown of Derna in east Libya Monday evening. The Council called for his immediate release, holding the detainees responsible for his safety.
In a statement published Tuesday morning, the Council expressed its discontent with the situation at a time when it is working to overcome the state of political division and ward off its disastrous results.
The Council’s statement explained that this event ignored all efforts at rapprochement as well the member’s legislative immunity which is derived from the laws in force in the state.
