The reopening of the Al-Dabdab-Ghadames crossing is postponed until further notice

The Head of the Land Ports Administration, Salah Al-Barishni, reported that the reopening of the Al-Dabdab – Ghadames border crossing between Libya and Algeria has been postponed.

Al-Barashni said in a statement to Libya Al-Ahrar that they were informed of this through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the request of the Algerian authorities. Earlier this month, it was announced that the official opening of the border crossing would be on December 12, before announcing on Monday the postponement of the event.

On November 13, the Ministry of Transportation of the Government of National Unity announced the operational readiness of the Al-Dabdab-Ghadames land crossing with Algeria. The Ministry stated that a Libyan delegation signed a protocol with the Algerian side to reopen the crossing in the coming period.

The Al-Dibdab-Ghadames land crossing is one of 3 border crossings that have been closed since 2014 following the deterioration of the security situation in Libya. It was reopened at the beginning of 2020 but was closed again due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
