The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced the return of 995 irregular immigrants to Libya who were heading to Europe via the Mediterranean, within a week.
According to its weekly report, among the migrants were 38 women and 15 children, who were returned between May 26 and June 1 of this year.
The IOM indicated that most of the migrants were returned to detention centers in Tripoli, Al-Zawiya, and Sabratha.
The number of migrants returned to Libya from the beginning of the year until June 1 reached 7,059 irregular migrants of different nationalities, including 221 children and 451 women.
The number of deaths during the same period, according to the organization, was 282 deaths, while 449 missing persons were recorded during that period.
