Turkey says Haftar remains a hindrance to Libya’s unity

The Turkish Defense Minister, Hulusi Akar, said Ankara will continue to support Libya to achieve unity and stability as well as lasting peace.

On the margins of Turkish Army’s “Sea Wolf Military Exercise 2021” in the Northern Mediterranean, Akar said Saturday that Turkish Army personnel had been training Libyan Army cadres on demining activities, humanitarian response, health and other bilateral cooperation fields as per the joint agreements between the two countries.

Speaking about warlord Haftar, Akar said that his recent military parade was a proof that he had been trying to stay relevant and that the real problem in Libya was and would be Haftar and his allies, asking a question: Where’s European Union’s Operation IRINI? Why doesn’t it interpcet the military support and weapons that arrive from foreign parties to Haftar?

Akar said Operation IRINI is appearantly trying to implement the rules on the Government of National Unity only, which casts away legitimacy from the European Operation and makes it a part of hindrances to the progress of the political process in Libya.

The Turkish Defense Minister renewed Ankara’s support for Libya despite all the provocative measures of Operation IRINI, saying Turkey had been in contact with all Libya stakeholders, especially Egypt.
