The United Kingdom’s (UK) Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has expressed concern over the ongoing crisis in the Central Bank of Libya, voicing fears of its impact on relations between Libya and international financial institutions.
A statement issued by the Office said that “Libyan parties must work seriously with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to quickly agree on a political process that ensures effective and transparent leadership of the Central Bank.”
It adds that the recent steps severely complicate Libya’s relations with international banks.
UNSMIL announced Monday the beginning of negotiations involving representatives of the House of Representatives, the High Council of State, and the Presidential Council, to reach proposals to resolve the crisis surrounding the Central Bank, noting that “important understandings” had been achieved.
