UNSMIL said that it was dismayed by the sentencing of the journalist Ismail Abuzreiba by Khalifa Haftar’s militias to 15 years imprisonment following a trial by a military tribunal in Benghazi.
The UN mission in Libya added in a statement on Twitter that it was concerned that the detention and trial appeared to violate Libya’s laws as well as its international obligations on the right to a fair trial and the right to freedom of opinion and expression.
The UNSMIL added on Twitter that it calls for the immediate release of Ismail Abuzreiba, who has been held by Haftar’s militias without due charges.
