UN, France, and the UK review support for Libyan-led political process

A three-day consultative meeting held in Wilton Park, London, at the invitation of the United Kingdom, has reaffirmed international support for a Libyan-led political process facilitated by the United Nations, according to statements by officials who participated in it.

The meeting focused on strengthening international efforts to advance the path of stability and development in Libya, as the Acting Head of the United Nations Mission in Libya, Stephanie Koury, said that the high levels of international support for the work of the United Nations in Libya were encouraging, stressing the importance of putting the country on a “sustainable path toward security, stability and development.”

A number of international ambassadors participated in the meeting, including British ambassador Martin Longden, who described the discussions as “valuable” saying that they focused on ways to better support the political process led by the United Nations, expressing optimism that tangible progress can be achieved through international cooperation.

French ambassador Mostafa Mihraje also expressed France’s full support for the efforts of the United Nations and Koury, stressing his country’s commitment to reaching a comprehensive solution to the Libyan crisis.
