UN official assures there is an urgent need for reconstruction in Derna

According to the Deputy UN Envoy and Humanitarian Coordinator in Libya, Georgette Gagnon, over 156,000 people in the flood-affected areas have received humanitarian aid so far.

Gagnon has confirmed that they have witnessed progress in removing the rubble and providing basic services. However, there is still a lot of destruction and an urgent need for reconstruction and stated that the United Nations is on the ground to support the population and early recovery.

During her fourth visit to Derna and the Green Mountain region, Gagnon held discussions with the local committee for mental health support about efforts to provide psychological and social support to flood survivors and possible ways to help them.
