UN welcomes resuming oil production at Sharara oilfield

UNSMIL has welcomed the lifting of force majeure on Sharara oil field by the National Oil Corporation.

In a statement on Sunday, the UN mission said the resumption of oil production at Libya’s largest oil field was due to the improved security situation in Sharara following discussions with security actors, notably in Egypt’s Hurghada.

“Ensuring the unimpeded exploitation of Libya’s oil resources and effective management of its oil revenues is a shared national interest.”

USNMIL added that this decision reflects the constructive atmosphere created in the lead-up to the reconvening by UNSMIL intra-Libyan military and political talks.

The NOC announced lifting force majeure on Sharara oilfield on Sunday following what it described as (Agreement of Honor) with the pro-Haftar Petroleum Facilities Guard.
