UNSMIL: 5+5 Libyan Joint Military Commission meetings have kicked off in Geneva

UNSMIL said the 5+5 Libyan Joint Military Commission is starting its meeting under the auspices of the United Nations in Geneva today (February 03).

The UNSMIL added that five senior officers appointed by the Government of National Accord (GNA) and five other senior officers appointed by Khalifa Haftar are participating in the talks.

It added that the delegations are moderated by the Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Ghassan Salame.

The commander of the Tripoli aggression, Khalifa Haftar, confirmed to the UN envoy Ghassan Salame two days ago that he accepted the Berlin conclusions and Geneva arrangements.

Haftar told Salame in a meeting in Al-Rajma on last Saturday that he agreed to the 5+5 military commission meetings as well as the upcoming political and economic tracks in Libya.

Haftar’s meeting with Salame came after the former had violated the ceasefire and amid the complete absence of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives.

The militias under the command of Haftar breached the Moscow and Berlin conclusions and targeted residential areas in Tripoli while trying to advance on western Sirte.
