UNSMIL condemns Military College airstrike, says it could amount to a war crime

The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) condemned in the strongest terms the airstrikes on the Military College in Al-Hadba neighborhood in Tripoli, where 30 cadets were killed and over 33 others were injured.

UNSMIL said in a statement following the attack that growing escalation of military operations at this dangerous level threatens to complicate the status quo in the country and undermines the chances of resuming the political process.

“We offer our condolences to the families of the victims and wish speedy recovery for the injured.” The UNSMIL added.

It also indicated that continuous escalated indiscriminate shelling and airstrikes against civilians and service institutions and facilities like hospitals and schools could amount to war crimes, adding that the perpetrators won’t get away with their crimes and will be punished sooner or later.
