Following consultations hosted by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) at its headquarters in Tripoli on Monday and Tuesday, representatives of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High Council of State (HCS) have reached important understandings on the crisis of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL), particularly on the mechanism and deadlines for appointing the CBL governor and board of directors.
UNSMIL added in a statement that the representatives of the HoR and HCS requested five days to complete their consultations and reach a final consensus on the necessary arrangements for managing the CBL until a new governor and board of directors are appointed.
UNSMIL reminded all Libyan parties of the negative impacts of the ongoing CBL crisis on the daily lives of citizens and on the confidence of international financial institutions in the Libyan banking system.
It also said that while it commended the atmosphere of cooperation that prevailed in the consultations with the two councils on the one hand and the representative of the Presidential Council on the other, it called on all parties to fulfill their obligations, refrain from any unilateral decisions and measures, and ensure that efforts would be intensified to reach an agreement without delay.
