US, Egypt discuss solution to Libya’s crisis

The Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdel Aati discussed the latest developments in Libya with US envoy to Libya Richard Norland in Washington, stressing the continuation of his intensive contacts with all concerned parties with the aim of contributing to moving the Libyan crisis toward a sustainable solution.

The two sides also discussed supporting the Libyan-Libyan solution path and respecting the role of Libyan institutions, leading to holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously.

They said that elections must be held in a manner that serves efforts to reach a solution to the crisis with pure Libyan ownership and leadership, in addition to the importance of respecting the reference of the Skhirat-signed Libyan Political Agreement.

They stressed the need to work on ending all forms of foreign presence in Libya, and the exit of all foreign forces, fighters and mercenaries from Libya within a specific time frame to preserve the unity, stability and sovereignty of Libya, end the state of division, ensure the preservation of the capabilities of its people and stop all forms of foreign interference.
