US embassy hails reopening Libyan coastal road as significant

The embassy of the United States in Libya has said that the opening of the coastal road is significant and comes as the international community prepares to meet in Berlin.

The US embassy added in a brief statement on Facebook that Libyans and foreign powers alike should focus on encouraging stability through acts like allowing this road to remain open and paving the path for Libyans to have full control over their own affairs, including elections in December.

Libyan Prime Minister, Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah, arrived in Misrata airport Sunday morning and then headed to Buerat Al-Hasson area to start the process of removing roadblocks that have been shutting down the road for years between Sirte and Misrata.

Reopening the road was part of the ceasefire agreement that was signed in October 2020 by the delegations of the Libyan Army and Haftar’s militias after the latter’s offensive on Tripoli was repelled.
