US hails progress made at Libyan constitutional talks in Cairo

The United States embassy in Libya said that it had been encouraged by the indications of progress made by the Joint Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR) and High Council of State (HCS) regarding the constitutional path needed for Libya to achieve stability and prosperity.

“During times of uncertainty, it is important that the  HoR and HCS undertake the responsibilities outlined in the 2015 Libya Political Agreement. We commend the participants and appreciate the constructive position of the Arab Republic of Egypt in hosting the event.” The US embassy said.

The US encouraged on Twitter the participants to complete their task when they reconvene in June, adding those talks represented the best opportunity presented so far this year to put Libya on a path to credible elections as soon as possible.
