US: LPDF has historic role in paving way for December elections

The United States has said it recognizes the historic role the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) has played in Libya’s sovereign push for December elections.

The US embassy in Libya added on Twitter on Wednesday that the LPDF has an opportunity Wednesday and Thursday to again make history by submitting a constitutional basis to the House of Representatives (HoR) that will make those elections possible without delay.

“Along with countless Libyans who hope for free and fair elections, the United States will be watching with great interest.” The US embassy added.

Meanwhile, the LPDF commenced its virtual meeting on Wednesday with the participation of the UN envoy, Jan Kubis, who reiterated in his opening remarks the importance of holding elections in December.

LPDF members are supposed to discuss the approval of the constitutional basis that was put forth by the Legal Committee, with most members not seeing eye to eye regarding the election of the president of Libya: whether directly from the people or by the House of Representatives.
