US reiterates support for holding Libyan elections in December

The US ambassador and special envoy to Libya, Richard Norland, has reaffirmed Washington’s support for elections on December 24 to address Libyans’ expectations.

Norland’s remarks came in a meeting with the Libyan Foreign Minister, Najla Al-Mangoush, on the margins of her visit to Tunisia, according to the US embassy in Libya.

The US embassy said Al-Mangoush shared her Ministry’s support for Libyan elections, including participation by Libyans living abroad.

They also discussed regional diplomacy aimed at implementing the June 23 Berlin ministerial meeting by reducing foreign military presence and preventing Libya from being used as a platform to destabilize the region.
