US targets Russian network carrying “malign activities in Libya”

The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Twitter on Wednesday that Washington had targeted a network connected to Russian operative Yevgeniy Prigozhin – owner of Wagner Group – working to advance Russia’s malign influence in the Central African Republic and Libya.

Pompeo added that the network of the Wagner Group boss, who is linked to the Kremlin and known as Putin’s Chef, had been even working beyond Libya.

“We will continue to promote accountability for those who support Russian malign activities.” The US Secretary of State added.

In the meantime, the spokesman for the Libyan Government of National Accord’s Sirte-Jufra Operations Room Abdelhadi Drah that a helicopter carrying Russian fighters crashed down near Jufra airbase.

He told reporters that the explosion of the helicopter led to the killing of four of Russian Wagner Group mercenaries as the chopper was heading to an oil field used as an operations room by pro-Haftar mercenaries.
