US, Western stakeholders welcome arrival of Williams in Libya

The embassies of France, Germany, Italy, UK and US have warmly welcomed the arrival on Sunday of the Special Advisor of the UN Secretary General, Stephanie Williams, in Tripoli.

The US embassy said on Twitter Sunday that the embassies affirm their full support for Williams’ efforts to assist Libyans in holding peaceful, free, fair, inclusive and credible presidential and parliamentary elections that will pave the way for a unified and stable future for Libya.

Earlier on Saturday, the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced the arrival of the Special Advisor of the Secretary General, Stephanie Williams, to Libyan capital, Tripoli, saying she will lead the good offices and mediation efforts and engagement with Libyan, regional, and international actors, in close coordination with UNSMIL, to pursue the implementation of the three intra-Libyan dialogue tracks and support the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres appointed Williams as his Special Advisor on Libya last week after the resignation of the UN envoy to Libya, Jan Kubis.
