Western, Central Libya elders: Salame is equalizing aggressors and defenders in Tripoli war

Elders from the Central, Greater Tripoli, Sahel and Mountain regions in Libya have expressed dismay at the recent briefing by the UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame at the security Council, accusing him of equalizing the aggressor and the defender.

The elders said in a statement on Saturday that Salame’s briefings and his statements that make the aggressor and the defender equal come amid the former’s attacks on Tripoli and the crimes committed against civilians, including children.

The statement denounced the use of Libyan National Army to describe Haftar’s militias by Salame at the Security Council, adding that his militias included mercenaries from Janjaweed from Sudan and Wagner Group mercenaries from Russia who are all paid and backed by the UAE, Saudi Arabia, France and Egypt.

The elders and dignitaries called on Salame to call things by their true names so that he avoids being a false witness.

“The wise in Libya are keen on delivering documents showcasing Salame’s violations to the UN and to the Secretary General.” The statement adds.
