Williams, 5+5 JMC attend Tunisia meeting, stress need to ensure stability

The Libyan 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) members attended a meeting Tuesday held by the security working group on Libya in the presence of co-chairs of the group from the UK, Turkey, Italy, France and African Union.

The meeting discussed monitoring the ceasefire, disarmament, demobilization and ways to move forward with the work of the JMC.

The UN Advisor on Libya, Stephanie Williams, stressed on Twitter the importance of ensuring that stability is maintained and that calm is preserved on the ground.

“Just ahead of the meeting, I also met with senior officials of the governments of the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Egypt and Turkey. I am grateful to all of them for their support for the holding of elections as soon as possible, on the basis of a solid, consensual constitutional framework, for the sake of fulfilling the aspirations of the Libyan people to vote for their representatives.” Williams explained.
