Williams: UNSMIL wasn’t informed of Maiteeq-Haftar oil deal

The Acting Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya |(UNSMIL) Stephanies Williams has revealed that the mission has not been informed about the deal to reopen oil between the member of the Presidential Council Ahmed Maiteeq and warlord Khalifa Haftar.

Williams told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that it is very important that all Libyan oil fields and ports are secured under the sole control of the National Oil Corporation (NOC).

Williams also stressed the need to evacuate all foreign fighters from oil facilities so oil production and exports can resume safely.

The Acting UNSMIL Head said most parties had been convinced that the solution in Libya would be political as military solutions and pressures on Libyan resources were in vain.

“Rather, the military solutions aggravated the suffering of the people and now all Libyans have one choice only: political solutions for their conflicts and division.” Williams remarked.
