Extraordinary meeting in Tripoli to discuss latest developments

The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, his Deputy Abdullah Al-Lafi, Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, the Chief of General Staff Mohammed Al-Haddad, Interior Minister, Chief of Intelligence, and other officials held an extraordinary meeting on Thursday in Tripoli to discuss the ongoing developments in the country.

During the discussions at the meeting, Dbeibah said the Government of National Unity will; continue to work fortified by the international recognition it has until elections are held in Libya.

The Libyan Prime Minister also called on the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Aqial Saleh and the Head of the High Council of State (HCS) Khalid Al-Mishri to “release the Libyan people” by agreeing on a consensual constitutional basis for holding elections.

Following the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister, Huseein Al-Gotrani, said the Government of National Unity is under pressure and hoped that Libya wouldn’t be dragged into bloodshed.

Al-Gotrani reiterated that the GNU has never had the intention to plunge Libya into fighting, but rather it has always pushed for holding elections.
